Water Reuse Technology for your Zero Liquid Discharge System
Wastewater recycling is on the agenda for many manufacturers now as water scarcity becomes an issue, pushing water prices up. We can help with your Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) strategy with our tertiary water treatment which removes persistent organic pollutants to trace levels.
Arvia’s advanced tertiary water treatment technology makes Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) a cost-effective reality for an increasing number of manufacturing facilities.
Zero Liquid Discharge
The benefits of aiming for 100% ZLD are clear:
Comply with increasingly stringent discharge regulations.
Reduce the impact of escalating water costs, especially in areas of water scarcity or where water supplies are under threat.
Save costs of off-site wastewater disposal (incineration or deep-well disposal).
Recover valuable resources contained in the water
As many watercourses, lakes and rivers become increasingly polluted and the public become more aware of just how many harmful pollutants are contained in the water, it’s inevitable that discharge regulations will become more stringent.
Resultant, ZLD becomes an increasing viable alternative to off-site treatments, all of which produce more greenhouses gases and do not represent good environmental stewardship. Our industrial wastewater treatment company is dedicated to providing greener solutions.
Until recently, ZLD was only a practical proposition for certain categories of industry, especially those where resources contained in the water could be captured and reused or sold. However, with Arvia Technology’s innovative new tertiary water treatments, ZLD becomes a reality for many more facilities of all sizes.
Arvia’s innovative Nyex™ systems use a unique combination of electrochemical and adsorption technologies to reduce a wide range of recalcitrant compounds found in industrial wastewater to below measurable levels.
As part of a comprehensive water treatment train, Nyex™ tertiary treatments can substantially reduce concentrations in wastewater of chemicals used in:
Agriculture and Aquaculture
Battery Recycling
Industrial and Manufacturing including adhesives and coatings
Life Sciences including Pharma, Biotech and Animal Health
Organic micropollutants (OMPs) are found in every wastewater stream: agricultural, industrial – even domestic. Our OMP effluent removal tech is exactly what you need.
OMPs from pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), personal care products, paints and coatings, toxic chemicals, endocrine disruptive compounds (EDCs) and many more can be treated effectively with our Nyex™ technology.
Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is used as a measure of organic pollutants in water and is split onto two types – non-biodegradable and biodegradable.
Nyex™ technology treats the recalcitrant non-biodegradables, like some pharmaceuticals, persistent organic pollutants, some industrial chemicals, pesticides and organic additives.
APIs are increasingly being found in discharge from industrial plants as well as in domestic wastewater.
The persistence of these chemicals makes it even more important to control, as higher concentrations of APIs in our oceans is leading to Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) – the growing resistance of many people to antibiotics. It is vital for the on-going threat of AMRs that industries seek effective API water treatment.
Nyex™ technology can be specially tuned to reduces APIs in wastewater to parts per billion!
Arvia’s Innovative Nyex™ Treatment Systems
Arvia produces a range of tertiary water treatment systems that can effectively remove many recalcitrant chemicals and compounds from wastewater down to incredibly low levels.
Our systems are simple to install and operate as there are no hazardous chemicals used and no toxic sludge produced as a by-product. Using an innovative combination of adsorption and electrochemistry, Arvia’s Nyex systems deliver industry-leading water treatment for many recalcitrant chemicals down to below measurable levels.
Eco friendly Water Treatment Process
We have designed our Nyex wastewater treatment solutions to be eco friendly and we are striving for carbon neutrality as a business.
As an example of this, none of the Nyex processes need chemical dosing to be effective. They do not produce any secondary waste and can be powered by solar energy, providing a more sustainable treatment option.
Water treated by Nyex can be safely reclaimed. The reuse of wastewater for other purposes within the business has profound effects like saving money and addressing high water demands in times of shrinking supplies.

Increases the Effectiveness of Existing Water Treatment Plant
By using Nyex™ wastewater treatment reactors in a ZLD water processing plant, considerable savings can be made compared with using other technologies.
Nyex systems have the following advantages over other tertiary water treatment systems:
1
Minimal Maintenance
Nyex™ systems have no moving parts. This increases reliability and reduces downtime considerably. Staff training is also minimised.
2
Controlled Levels of Removal
Nyex™ systems can be calibrated to remove pollutants to a certain concentration. Lower levels are always possible – but take longer and use more power.
For many ZLD systems – especially if recovered water is intended for blow-down – there will be a ‘sweet spot’ which will have been pre-set as part of Arvia’s commissioning process.
3
Minimal Operational Requirements
Operationally, our systems require little operator input. There are no hazardous chemicals to ‘tip in’ so there are no COSHH requirements. Plus, there are no moving parts, so downtime is minimal.
4
No Toxic Sludge Production
Many of Arvia’s innovative systems use a technically advanced adsorptive media that regenerates itself whilst in use. (Read the full technical description.)
This means that unlike GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) systems, it remains almost 100% effective, requiring only a 1 – 3% top-up annually.
And unlike GAC, a Nyex™ system does not need to be taken offline regularly to remove and replace spent media. (GAC systems produce toxic sludge – the spent media – which must be removed to be reactivated or sent to landfill.)
5
Flexible, Modular System
Nyex™ reactors have a small footprint and can be mounted on a skid or easily fit inside a shipping container. This makes siting very flexible.
Additionally, any Nyex system is flexible and can be expanded quickly just by hooking up additional reactors.
6
Plug and Play
Installation of any Nyex™ system is as simple as hooking up the feed and permeate water connections and plugging in the power.
Nyex systems are pre-calibrated at the factory for the specific pollutants to be treated. Powering the system is as simple as throwing a switch – no further adjustments are normally needed. This makes our systems ideal for batch processes.
Arvia’s Total Solution for ZLD
As part of a wastewater treatment chain designed to deliver ZLD, Arvia’s innovative Nyex™ systems will deliver cost-effective treatments for many years, with little maintenance.
This also makes sense from a corporate responsibility viewpoint, whilst at the same time, safeguarding manufacturing facilities from increasingly costly water supplies and the threat of further stringent discharge regulations.
